In the recent International Mycological Congress 12 held in Maastricht, Netherlands, four active members of the Australasian Mycological Society (AMS) were honored for their exceptional contributions to the field of mycological research.

Dr. Tom May, Principal Research Scientist (Mycology) at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria was the recipient of the prestigious International Mycological Association (IMA) Fellow Medal for his remarkable achievements and unwavering commitment to mycological research. Dr. Elle Bowd, a young mycologist from the Australian National University has also been awarded the Best Young Mycologist Talk Award for her presentation on "Fire and Fungi in Forests" in the IMC12 Early Career Mycologists Symposium at the conference. Two other notable researchers were celebrated for their emerging contributions to mycology. Dr. Camille Truong, Research Scientist (Mycology) at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria and Dr. Johanna Wong-Bajracharya, Research Scientist (Biosecurity) at the Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute, New South Wales Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development also received the Daniel McAlpine Medal, an award that recognizes outstanding young mycologists from the Australasian region who possess less than 10 years of post-graduate research experience.
