We invite you to attend our upcoming AMS virtual seminar! This month's seminar will feature Dr. Alistair McTaggart, a co-founder of the Psymbiotika Lab.
The pathway to designer magic mushrooms
Dr. Alistair McTaggart
27 March 2025
12pm AEST
Summary: Fungi produce secondary metabolites to increase their chances of survival, whether through deterrence of fungivory, attraction, or control. Through a stroke of evolutionary good fortune, psilocybin, the psychoactive metabolite in magic mushrooms, causes profound and life-changing experiences in humans. Come join Alistair to learn how two magic mushrooms diversified in Australia, how there are more waiting to be found, and how we will innovate diversity in the genes that produce psilocybin to produce designer shrooms and innovate psilocybin beyond mental health.

Alistair co-founded Psymbiotika Lab. His current interest is to advance any and all knowledge on magic mushrooms. He researched fungal genetics and
evolution for 18 years in Australia, Africa, America, and Europe. Read his research blog here and see a list of his research outputs here.
